  • keep FS threads on topic

I've been noticing an increase in crap posts in peoples FS posts......If someone has something FS, I think they can do without the "why" questions, and "damn thats hot" comments, and "Id be all over this" comments, and you know what else.....I think it clutters it up, and detracts from the point of the thread.....I know I would want to start a new thread.....I'm sure alot of people appreciate nice comments, but unless it helps in the sale of the item, it should not be posted.....Am I alone here?

Re: keep FS threads on topic

Often peoples comments can help with a sale by providing additional insight and opinions, however in some cases the thread can get so off topic it becomes useless to the seller.

I think if people do not want any comments they should indicate that in their initial post, and in extreme cases we can close the thread upon request.

I guess I was alone in the feeling....its just we KNOW dereks car is hot, we KNOW the other derick can take nice photos, etc....Maybe they just struck a chord with me because its the same thing over and over again.......I agree, the "good deal" bumps, and stuff like that encourage people to take another look at it, but making specific comments just because I guess is what I was getting at...

Re: keep FS threads on topic

Hmmm, I didn't realize my post offended you so much Alex? Of course I'm going to post sample photos on my camera FS thread. Not because I want to show off my photography skills, but because I want to create a visual association between what I'm selling and what a potential buyer can do with the camera. For them to think, "nice, I can do that?" with the gear for sale. Can't say I'm apologetic for doing so... It's just good marketing. As for the "clutter", well maybe I missed this one. The classified boards seem to creep along at the busiest of times and most threads take forever to get to the 2nd page.... None are real issues in my eyes.

Re: keep FS threads on topic

no no no no no......you all have it wrong!!!!! I'm all for selling your product!!! I'm all for your own advertising!!! Allow me to provide an example, I'll use dericks GTI as one:

Derick puts his car up for sale, goes through the effort of posting pics, and making a description...he wants to sell his car, right? Well the following posts fill up his for sale thread

"aww man, sorry to see you're selling"
            "this car is hawt"
            "what are you buying next"
            "I love that colour/rims/drop/whatever"

Do any of these help him sell?? Were these posts the point of the thread? Will they clutter it up and turn his "for sale" thread into a simple discussion about his car (of which there are many more in the appropriate areas??).....thats all I'm getting at....if I want my FS thread to move, I'll bump

My bad Alex. I interpreted your post completely differently I guess the irrelevant clutter CAN be annoying. Personally, I don't really notice it because I never read through the threads who's titles don't interest me

I'm not trying to start an argument here, but I think these "cluttering" posts do help sell products....atleast in a way, by constantly bumping the thread. I agree with you to a point, but I have yet to see a fs thread get way out of hand. Just my $0.02
