    Re: Poll: Club Name Change

That chip box does kick ass Kris!!!

On a different token I must re-emphasize the fact that this club is a very creative and well organized club. I still remember when I first met some of you guys you got like 10 cars to come and meet up at Westhills just for my sake of meeting you guys cuz I was in Calgary.. That was very cool and shows how much this club really does care about its members and guests.

I have the utmost respect for those running this club so well, and of course its members and guests...

So names to me mean nuthin as long as we have the same guys around to mod and bullshat with..

OK once again I am done with my boredom speech... thx

          Re: Poll: Club Name Change

I personally don't mind the name. When I first joined the club, I associated the name with water-cooled dubs. When most non-vw people think of a volkswagen enthusiast site, they are more than likely going to think of an air-cooled bug or vanagon. You know, Herbie, the Love Bug types. I think newveedub is a pretty good name to distinguish our focus from the other clubs. Here's an idea though. How about changing the header to:

          newveedub
          Water-Cooled Volkswagen Enthusiast Site

I think the diference between water-cooled and air-cooled is the real separator between late-model and early-model.

          Just my input.

            Re: Poll: Club Name Change

Well things seem very divided and so I think I will bring up a few points. Firstly I think that a name change, even if people think it is not a big deal could have a big impact on the club. We have to examine the motivation for a name change, is it because NVD is not as cool as Alberta Uber Dub Aholics or do we actually feel NVD is holding us back. Would we perhaps not be better of just trying to market or existing name better, in these two threads there have been some very great opinions of what people feel the name NVD means.

I think timing is also a huge factor in changing the name, we are coming up on the main show season for the summer, and perhaps changing the name now would not help us make a good mark this year, perhaps winter time is a better time, assuming we could not get everything changed in the next week

As Kris has mentioned this debate has occurred at various points and I cant help but feel that if the name is changed then this debate may arise again in a few months time when Rip L Dubs has lost its charm. I also worry that a name change will make the club look unstable and could discourage possible new members from coming out and joining up.

I am really not for or against a change in the name I just want to make sure the choice is made for the correct reasons and handled properly. It will take a fair amount of work to coordinate a change and I am up for the challenge if that is what everyone wants but someone better come up with a kick ass name first

                Re: Poll: Club Name Change

I really think that changing the name is more hassle than its worth. Its more the people that count. Like Blair mentioned earlier, the cost of changing the name etc makes it more than little name swap. There the whole "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and I think that it applies here pretty well.

We could always modify the name to newishveedub, might not confuse people so much

                          Re: Poll: Club Name Change

A name change may still be in the cards for us but I think we need to run with NVD for the summer and show season and re-evaluate in the fall/winter when it would be a better time to change.

Does this mean waiting until fall for stickers? Maybe just make fewer.

I second making this decision in the winter, in time for the next show season. We already rep'd World of Wheels as NVD.

Maybe we could just go with 'NVD' over 'Newveedub' I think that the one problem we had with 'Newveedub' was confusion with 'Clubveedub'. Thus we are not really changing the name, but changing how we sell it...

But NVD is so similar with CVD etc. I agree with Blair that we should pursue this after show season in the fall/winter. We have some kick ass cars in the club and I don't want people thinking we are CVD or a branch from them or anything like that. But in the mean time we should order some stickers with the newveedub text on the top of the site, that would be dope.
