  • Scalping tickets...

I know this has been brought up before.. but I think Eurodrivers should introduce some sort of marketplace rules that prohibit scalping of tickets. Not only is it illegal, but it can also shed a negative image on the site as a whole. Other local sites such as www.Beyond.ca have introduced similiar rules, and I feel it benefits everyone on the board.
If someone wants to scalp they should do so at their own will at the train station or on other various sites. (Craigslist, Kijiji etc)

    Thoughts??

    Re: Scalping tickets...

up to the prez i guess

personally i don't have a problem with people selling tickets for any price. nobody is making you buy them, am i right?

i should add that i have never sold/scalped tickets before, in case anyone is wondering that i might have.

what makes it legal? if they say something like: "flames pencil for sale $200, included are 2 FREE tix"? haha

lastly, one way to make scalpers go away is build a stadium with infinite amount of seating space! as long as demand exceeds supply there will be scalpers, no matter if the tix were free from the start or hundreds of dollars each.

i kind of agree with mark especially if law enforcement were to visit here..

I just think if its worth the time of some of the bigger forums.. it might be worth it here as well. Whether or not people think its a big deal.. its still illegal. I dont know if the site could ever get into trouble for allowing it.. but seems like an easy precaution.

Do we really have a scalping problem? I don't see tons of scalping threads coming up every week..

            Re: Scalping tickets...

The reason mark is bringing this up is because of my flames ticket thread.

I don't normally post tickets for sale, but I was trying to help a buddy out. I have seen in the past that some people on here ask about seats and I figured that someone might want them. I did a quick bit of research for pricing (kijiji, craigs...) and posted them. The price I posted was significantly cheaper that most other tickets in the same area.

If I have offended anyone on this site, I am sorry.

                Re: Scalping tickets...

You weren't the first person to try and sell tickets here... just the most recent. You didnt do anything agasint the rules.. I was just questioning the rules (or lack there of) relating to the issue. Guess if/when there is a higher number of scalped tickets being posted.. the higher ups can deal with them as they see fit.

Just putting it out there, but isnt scalping selling the tickets for more than the value stated on the ticket?

so its not scalping to sell at equal or lesser value than that stated on the tickets?

Nope, its only illegal to sell tickets at a higher value... selling at face or below is just fine.

                          Re: Scalping tickets...

Yes scalping is only scalping when you sell something for above face value. This is a bit of a strange issue as with most things you are fair to sell at market value and if that happens to be above cost/face value then that is fine (ignoring tax implications ) however with tickets this constitutes a crime.

We are not in support of people scalping tickets however I feel that is an issue between the buyer and seller, you choose to sell at a price and you can choose to pay that amount or not. I understand there are potential legal issues for us but I am not sure this is large enough issue to be overly concerned with. I would also be more likely to post up that we accept no responsibility for any transactions occurring in the classified section and full liability rests with the parties directly involved.

The overall problem is that scalping is a result of basic economics; supply and demand and is very hard to predict and control, just look at things like superbowl tickets. Plus you have large agencies which constantly sell over face value and loop holes on ebay so despite an attempt to help the locals out with this issue it is far greater then a few classified posts.

My 2 cents anyway, but if you guys want some rules on this and the majority agrees we can set something up.

                            Re: Scalping tickets...

I talked to my dad's friend who is a judge, and he said their has never been and probably will never be a case brought before a judge regarding this issue in Alberta. He said it is a misdemeanor offense and the seller/buyer will only get a fine like a parking ticket, but most police officers/security will just kick the seller of the property if they are selling at the venue.

He also said that a forum cannot be held responsible for the sale of a "scalped" ticket as again it is just a misdemeanor offense.........

The above being said, it might be worthwhile just tossing up a statement that it's not condoned to scalp tickets, and the site takes no responsibility.

The fact that people will ignore, and/or not read it doesn't really make a difference, and for the sake of a post, it seems worth it imho.
