  • Photo section of database

Love the forums, and love everybody's pictures. However, with all of the work to create a picture thread (as experienced following euroquake), I got to thinking that it'd be great to have a photo server.

I've used Coppermine before, it's a MySQL based PHP program. Works GREAT. Any thought to adding something like that?

    Re: Photo section of database

I think one issue is that in the past we have not had a lot of money, and if galleries become popular with cross linking, it can use a lot of bandwidth...

We might be able to afford it these days though, since we have saved up and probably bandwidth is cheaper?

With websites like Picasa etc I think paying for a server or a host would be a waste of the clubs money.

The problem with Picasa is that if I have a gallery, the best I can do is create a link from Eurodrivers to my photos. If there were a bunch of photos from a single show, all linked as URL's, it's just a bit of a.....pain.

When suggesting Coppermine, here's a link to a photo site that uses it, and I think the layout is even somewhat close to how ED looks. It's based on aviation photography, but you get the general idea.

            Re: Photo section of database

I'm currently in the middle of updating my online photo album and am open to the ideas of different programs and such we could integrate at the same time if needed.

Currently I am just using basic little phpalbum.net's software. Nothing to complicated and haven't modified it much either. If anyone else has any ideas for photo gallery software, let me know. I don't mind integrating it with the site along with my hosting.
