  • BMW TMPS Sensors

I'm looking for some winter boots for my 2008 335i. I've got TPMS sensors in my car right?? There is a rather large "Continental" Black box in my trunk. I dont want the car gonging at me every time I start it up...

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: BMW TMPS Sensors

If you have a Canadian 335, you don't need the PMS sensors as it feeds off the ABS system. If you have a US car, you will need the sensors. I am pretty sure that is how the systems differ. I ordered a set of rims and tires for a 335xi and no TPMS sensors were required but this was a Canadian vehicle.

"First thing is that if you are in Canada we do not have TPMS we have TPW which is a flat monitoring system that uses rotational differences in the tires."

          Re: BMW TMPS Sensors

The best way to check is to walk out to your vehicle and see if you have metal valve stems or rubber. If you have rubber stems you have an rotational based system, if you have metal you have actual sensors. The dealers around here aren't so smart, they think all the Canadian BMW's came with rotational based system when some cars did in fact come with the TPMS system. With so many US cars now being landed for a few years and being resold, it is easiest to check yourself and be 100% sure.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go have a look at the stems.

How much is it for a set of rotational sensors for a 2007 5 series?

                  Looking at getting summer rims...

I think the point of rotational sensors is that there is nothing built into the wheels

Correct, FREE! No sensors to replace, no special stems to use, no batteries to die.

Best case scenario in terms of price and longevity is the rotational based sensors so that is good news for you.

Didn't realise how the sensors worked on these cars. I will be swapping winters for summers on Monday so I guess I will find out then to see if it has TMPS sensors or not.

For your E60, 99% you have sensors. There is the odd 3-series that had metal stems but no sensors (come by the shop and I can scan it for you and tell you if there is a sensor in there), but all E60's should have TPMS sensors up until the wheel speed replaced the system.
