  • I know what your going to say...a lift kit?

This is going to sound funny, but I'm looking for a (small) lift kit for my 2004 Jetta TDI.
I'm affraid one day im going to take that car down a dirt road and lose the oil pan, or some other vital underpinning.

Does such a thing exsit? If so would it have any bad effects on handling -I dont race but I do have a heavy foot.

    Thanks.

Is it lowered already? Or are you trying to go higher than stock height?

You can try to get some higher springs I guess.

If your worried about the oil pan then why not one of those metal skid plates?

      Just an idea.

Shine makes some of the best suspension kits for the mk4, and I do believe there is a slight increase in height. Personally I think it's the stiffness of the spring more than the actual height. I scrape less with my lowered aftermarket springs than the mushy stock ones.

I am more of the belief it is the terribly soft in compression stock shocks but I definately know more broken pans from stock suspension either way.

Plus, how can anyone asking for a 2" lift kit be taken seriously?? I can imagine a small lift, but that seemed a little unrealistic....Regardless, the other replies here are right, you got your question answered.....

Anyhow, on the original topic, I would spend the $300 on a skid plate rather than the higher suspension.....I have yet to have any problems with either my stock or my lowered suspension....I've bottomed out once, but it was the subframe not the oilpan......

I know there is a lift kit that you can get from VW, I don't know how it's done but it raises your car a little bit and is fairly inexpensive (don't ask how I know that)

Also, as someone else said I believe the shine suspension raises your car somewhat, but in my opinion, as humble as it may be, no one should RAISE a vehicle unless it's 1. a truck 2. a rally car.

If you're really worried about it though, I suggest, as have the others, that you consider a skid plate. It's even a better option than either of the above because even with your car raised you'll still be a little paranoid about the unprotected pan.

Edit: oh yea "Complaint Denied" Classic!

Re: I know what your going to say...a lift kit?

I called VW and suprise suprise, they had never heard of one. I will be investing in this skid plate, which I assume they have heard of, or if any of you can recommend a good aftermarket one and where to buy it.

The lift isn't a streach for me. I dont race my jetta, but I do want more power - up the fun level a bit. I do go into the mountains and some crappy roads and have mashed the undercarrige from time to time on what I should have easily cleared. I also tow up to 1500 LBS with it in my little utility trailer.
Alittle more power (chip it) and a little more ground clearence and this car will be perfect...except for the seats - I have the sport and it came with these recario knockoffs, **** for long drives.

                      Cheers.

If you'd like to know more about it, I can try and find out. The dealer that knew about it was in Red Deer but I don't know the name of the guy (I think he may have been a tech).

And I still recomend http://www.evolutionimport.com/ as you will save yourself the hassel of duty and shipping is cheap. I take mine off all the time and it is a breeze to remove and there is no need to remove it if you cut out an oil drain hole.

There is one or two guys on tdiclub.com that have mad elift kits for their Jettas for the same reason, lots of dirt and rough roads and a very low oil pan. I believe it came out at about 1.5 inches of extra clearance.

Go to tdiclub.com and do a search for lift kits and the thread should come up. They will either explain how they did it or what type of package to buy.
