  • Carbotech Brakes

In addition to the excellent PBR brakes I currently offer for performance on a budget. I can now supply one of the best pads for race/ fast road applications: Carbotech.

These are not like street pads, they are for those who really want serious braking performance. The range starts at a level much higher than most ‘performance’ pads while still being suitable for street use and goes to full race compounds that are only suitable for high horsepower vehicles over 2600lbs using R compounds as they have such a high friction coefficient (0.6) that they will lock the wheels too easily.

The BOBCAT series is proving to be very popular with high performance and autocross driver. It is a ceramic based friction material offering practically zero rotor damage. Bobcat offers outstanding performance when cold, very low dusting, and low noise with an excellent initial bite. Friction coefficient is .45 over it’s operating range of ambient temp to 900F.

The next step up is the CARBOTECH PANTHER PLUS (1106): A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range (150F to 1250F). Advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial "bite", high coefficient of friction (0.54-0.56), and very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Panther Plus offers high fade resistance, rotor friendliness at all temperatures, and excellent cold stopping power. As a result, Panther Plus is an excellent choice for beginner-novice lapping day and high performance driver's schools on street driven cars using street or R-compound tires, eliminating the need to change brake pads at the track. Panther Plus has gained tremendous popularity with SCCA Prosolo/Solo2 competitors for its fantastic bite and modulation.

Pricing for VW starts at around $150 for fronts and $120 for rears.

sensors?...when your head stops hitting the window when you put on the brakes, they are gone! But I talked with the technical guy and he said that they install sensors in most of the applications that would normally come with them.

Aren't ceramic and cold usually mutually exclusive?

well their full race pads wouldn't stand a chance in the cold but they wont fade until 1600 F. The Bobcats are specifically designed to be able to operate at cold temperatures, the Panther plus do need a little heat (150F) but this is also pretty low for brakes.

              Re: Carbotech Brakes

The rotors are actually Brembo cores that Carbotech put a high quality anti corrosive finish on everything except the braking surface. They are slotted and balanced but they will not do crossdrilled. Crossdrilled (that aren't cast with holes) are somewhat susceptable to cracking which can have disasterous results.
