  • Bert and Jacks

I just wanted to post this rant about the so called great bert and jacks auto.
I have had the worst experience ive had with a mechanic shop at this place, and I have had some poor experiences at previous shops.

I had my transmission rebuilt by bert and jacks in my 01 Jetta spring 2009. All was well and good (besides them leaving my car unlocked with the hood unlatched outside their shop when they said it would be parked inside). I took it in a while after to get the transmission fluid changed along with getting my water pump fixed. About 4 months ago my transmission started to act up again so I had it looked at by Tunedub. A previous incident with the water pump (also dealt with by bert and jacks) made my decision to not take the car back there. Tunedub replaced my wishbone mount but no suck luck fixing the problem. the car has sat outside of my house until two weeks ago when I took the car in again to get this problem sorted out, to find out that Bert and jacks had put the wrong fluid in the trasmission. I dont understand with all the so called mechanical experince bert and jacks employees claim to have, why the hell they would put the wrong fluid in. Like come on... Needless to say because of their f*ck up Im getting the trasmission replaced, not rebuilt. I will never be returning to bert and jacks nor will be recommending them.
Just my two cents. thanks for reading

So the wrong fluid wrecked the tranny?

      Re: Bert and Jacks

I guess maybe my post was misleading.
I buy parts from Paul, he has great prices, he lets me/us use his shop and tools which almost all shops will never do. He shares his knowledge instead of making us pay for it.
Being able to do the work myself, and driving the crap out of the car. I can unfortunately only blame myself when thing break down due to wear/tear/negligence.

MKIV transmissions aren't built for performance driving, I don't know your driving style so unless you were always driving your car like a grandma maybe your claim is warranted.

I also took my truck to a transmission shop (a good one in my opinion, and other people's experiences), they left my truck out also unlocked, I wrecked the transmission after a few months due to an unrelated problem (broken spider gears). I should have gone back and told them they wrecked my transmission too.
      put.......put.......

      .... ... .. .

        Do you feel better now.
I know the cause of failure was not due to oil.
So what failed in the tranny?
A worn out wishbone calls for extensive hard driving.
Good luck with your new tranny..(Not going to last)
Oh by the way change your TCM at the same time.

Not taking sides on this one as I don't know either party and/or the whole story. However was this an automatic or manual trans? I'm going to assume since you mentioned a TCU that it's an automatic. While I'm not familiar with the autos on the transverse applications, I do know that the wrong fluid (i.e. regular ATF) on a longitudinal application 5HP-19 will cause issues for sure. Whether or not it will crater it I can't say 100%. Probably depends on how long you drive it with it in it I guess. However it does cause shifting issues. Again though, I don't know if the transverse applications are as fussy as a 5HP-19 (or if any trans is for that matter).

What kind of fluid was put in it anyway?

I don't know what the situation is with the OP, but this isn't exactly the most professional response I have seen in my life.

                    Re: Bert and Jacks

I think that the response was appropriate. If the OP has a problem with the services performed, shouldn't they talk to the company/person instead of airing their dirty laundry on a public forum? If I was the company, I wouldn't even respond to this. You can't win an argument on the internet, but since he did, then this was an appropriate response. He gave a bit more information without clearly stating that there were other issues that he knew of, that the original poster may not have listened or done all of the service necessary to get everything working properly.

Oh well, that's my 2 cents. I'm out.

                      Kick Ass.

I have no idea what happened, let alone ever stepped foot in Bert and Jacks. But that response garnered a lot of respect from me. Why must a company remain professional and correct all of the time? Especially after having their name dragged through the mud. Those that think otherwise haven't worked enough time in customer service to understand IMO.

**** yeah, if I have an issue which I cannot fix, I will bring it by.

Sound like stand up reasonable people.
