  • Turbo Back?

Has anyone had George install a turboback on their car?

I'm buying one from concept-1 but I don't think I will pay the $105/hr shop rate @ 3 hours to install the exhaust. It seems a little pricey. What would George charge for this install? I called but he wasn't around. Any input is appreciated.

    thanks

    Re: Turbo Back?

He charged 3 hours for mine it depends on how well the old exhaust comes out.

3 hours sounds about right because of the downpipe(s)...if it were catback it should take an hour or less. What kind of car? Me thinks you could DIY fairly easily

You gotta figure it will take almost an hour to get the old hardware out, and hour to put in a new downpipe, and another hour to install the cat back and do the adjustments so that the fit is good. So 3 hours at shop rate, yeah.

So if you just wanted to install the downpipe it would run you about 2 hours?

I have read some DIY some say it is easy some say it is a PITA.

                  Turboback DIY

I love wrenching on my car but I rather let someone else handle this.

I called Tunedub and I was told $150 to install it on my 2002 GTI 1.8T. Not sure if thats right or not as I didn't speak with George himself, it was a women on the phone (I think she may have asked him when she told me to hold on) Anyways, I am going to ask C-1 what they charge tomorrow as I am getting chipped there. The guy there said 3 hours though.

Oh, and I also asked the shop rate as I had forgotten since my oil change. The woman on the phone said it was $100/hr.

I believe the woman on the phone there has a screw or two loose. She is a little off with what she says, when being compared to what george says. Try to get a hold of george.

yup he put it up recently, id have it done at C1 you dont have to drive it around and if theres a problem with the unit they cant say it was done during fitting and they can handle it there and then and your not car less.

                            Re: Turbo Back?

I am getting the APR Turboback and APR chip while they are both on sale due to the APR moving sale. What do you mean they will add the option? Like at a reduced price package deal or something?

Well I called twice today and George was unavailable both times, so I could call tomorrow and hopefully George will be around a phone. If she said $150.00 and I call George tomorrow and he says $300.00 maybe she shouldn't be telling customers the wrong info as I have already made an appointment to have it done there, but If I find out concept-1 is the same/cheaper (which I doubt) I will just save myself some hassle and get it done there.

I'll let you guys know tomorrow the exact cost, in case anyone else was wondering.

If she said $150, that's what it'll be...she would've asked George while she put you on hold. George is the best indy around by far, and will definately be cheaper than C-1 . And $90/hr is his rate...unless it went up in the last couple days.
