  • Tranny Swap

Hey i've been to DubSport once to get my CEL checked, anyways, i have a 99.5 jetta vr6 thats automatic... i was thinking about selling it and getting a 5 speed 1.8t, but now im considering swapping the tranny for a 5 or maybe 6 speed. How much would this cost and do you think it would be better to sell it or swap it?

    Re: Tranny Swap

Engine swaps paired with tranny swaps. It is much more cost effective to sell and buy a different one.

another question, my CEL's been on for a while and it would go away by itself, but yesterday it flashed, i have just under 130,000kms and i probably need a new timing belt, how much would this cost?

timing belt shouldn't throw a cel.

          Re: Tranny Swap

The swap would out weigh the price of purchasing the different vehicle. The flashing CEL is caused by a overfueling of the catalytic conv and is dangerous... it is usaully caused by a misfire.

It will glow red and overheat, may start a grass fire or worse yet a car fire.

one of the crews at my work lost a truck last year due to a catalytic ignited grass fire. these things are hot enough at the best of times.

Vr6's don't have timing belts. They have chains.
