What kind of work does George do?
I need a summer tune up done and my idler bearing changed.
Would he be able to do that for me?
He pimps and then on the side he fixes VW's.
Seriously he can do anything the dealership can do, VW Service, maintenance and part installation.
Yes he can do that, although for the "tune up" you might want to work out with him exactly what you want done, IE fluids flushed, belts changed, plugs, filters, etc etc.
You do need an appointment and George is awesome at what he does. He worked at Northland for a long time and was one of their better techs IMO. He has done custom work of very high caliber too, and he even works on VW's as a hobby sometimes so you know he has the passion for the job.
Basically he worked at the dealership and his reputation got so good and so many customers wanted him to work on their cars that he easilly could just start his own shop and do better, so he did.
That makes me feel better. Ive heard alot about his work. Does he price a little better than the dealerships? lol
Its a bit better, I am not actually sure what his shop rate is or what the dealership's is these days.
I am pretty sure this is how it works at the dealership though:
The dealership charges you the rate out of a book. For example, if they are doing your clutch, they check a book, and the book says "takes 10 hours" and so they charge you 10 hours labour.
For a junior tech, or if it is a particularly tough job, they might actually take 10 hours. The average is probably 8 hours. But for a senior tech... maybe he can do it in 6 hours.
So George would charge you for 6 hours, or however long he actually worked on the car for.
So in this hypothetical scenario, even if you pay the same hourly shop rate, you would save 40%.
I am not 100% sure this is how it works. But about 75% sure.
