  • Dents & Dings

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere, i have a door ding and a hit and run fender crumple i need banged out before i try to sell my car. Anyone have any "go to's"? at all? Anyone know a ballpark I'm maybe looking at as far as price?

Door ding is a 4 inch long…door ding…? Just how you would imagine it would look if the edge of a door hit my car.

The fender crumple is a bit more brutal, but you can get behind it easily because of where it is. Seems like a cars front bumper hit it lightly, then they drove through it to get away or panicked or whatever.

Any help at all would be great!

Folded dents or crumples have to be professionally repaired.

If it's a circular indent, try using a (new) toilet plunger to pop the dent out. Also you can try holding a can of compressed air upside down and using it to freeze the area of the indent, then take a heat gun to the dent area.

If neither of these work then I suggest going to a shop and getting it fixed, but I have no idea on the price.

You might find it more cost effective to buy another fender of the same color and replacing it.

Heat gun first, then freeze, no?

Try and get your hands on some dry ice. CO2 freezes at about -80C, so it's nice and chilly. Rub it over the dent and with any luck the metal will contract enough to pop the dent. Not sure if you can buy it anymore though.

Cosmos has always been great and is preferred by many dealers, pricey though.

I think you're trying to contract the metal all over with cold, then get the dented in part to expand with heat so it goes back to it's original position.

It is Heat then Cold and repeat. What you are looking for is the fastest change in temperature. Direct application of liquid O2 to a hot surface does this very well.

Jim just take it or send pictures to a paint-less dent repair place for an estimate. I am always surprised at how many dents they can fix the paint-less way. Sounds like the door ding would not be a problem but the fender sounds like a job for a body shop. Either way quick dent repair place will tell you what can be done.

I'll maybe get some photos this weekend. I'm not driving it in the winter so I'm not near it enough

Okay well as soon as you can get some pictures up I can definitely help you make an "informed decision" on where to go for repairs. Depends on the size, shape and location. Make sure to post pictures of both!

Canadian dent repair is where my dad sends a lot of his clients with hail damage. I think they are pretty good, they did all my dents for $100.
