  • Airbag light...

So the airbag light came on today after the drive home.

Has yours ever come on and what did u do?

I did read on vortex that i need to vagcom it to erase the code but run the risk of the airbags deploying if they are not a certain product number. So at this point i really dotn know what to do! Takin it to the dealer so he can erase the code for 60 bucks isnt something i would like to do but if need be i guess ill have to.

It is a 2000 Golf Gls manual.

    Re: Airbag light...

vag-com wont trigger the bags, but you risk causing a permanent staying on of the light. its supposed to be only 2001 models that are effected (with a certain s/n), and even then, the latest vag-com cables are supposed to be ok. either way, you can clear the fault codes without scanning the airbag module, if all you want to do is clear it.

Stefan thanks for clearing that up!

I want to clear the code but i also want to know what the problem is, so that i do not have faulty deployment if it ever get triggered!

Justalilbit, def let me know what happened at the dealer and how much it cost ya.

Is it okay for me to still drive the car? I dont see any problem with it, just wanna clear it up!

          Re: Airbag light...

there should be no way for a false trigger (not promising). If anything like that were to fail, it would likely disable the system, as that is a safe alternative to it popping on the highway.

i have a 2000 jetta my light has been on for over six months. The guy at Eurasia said that if i had traction control the cost to fix it would be a lot more than if i didnt so because ive had no funds, im not worrying about it.

I've heard with the light on, no airbags will deploy.... Or is this just a myth?
