  • Catalytic Converter Question

Well, as if I haven't spent enough money on my car this past summer, but now it looks like I will be replacing the catalytic converter. Actually, my car is still under warranty but I was wondering if there was a better performance option than the factory converter.

Also, is it normal for this thing to just go out of the blue without any warning?

Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

    Re: Catalytic Converter Question

i'm not too sure, but short of smashing it on a rock, or clogging it from heavy oil consumption or something, I don't think they usually pile up on a 2001. I'd go for warranty, since they are so expensive.

But if you are told to pay, doesn't the APR/ABT downpipes come with a highflow cat as well? When stock breaks, use as excuse to upgrade I say.

And running really rich can screw up your cat - perhaps have an AF check.

The car is in the shop right now and will be looked at tomorrow (I hope.) The warranty is still good so I will wait and see what they find out but I do agree with Khyron that this would be a great excuse to upgrade.

I read over my manual and all the potential causes of cat failure just don't seem to exist for me. I really have no idea what could have caused it. I will wait to hear from them tomorrow and post an update.

why do you think the Canadian Gov.imposed an extension on cats and maf
          units.they are garbage.i believe 7 years or 130,000kms warranty.
the big dealerships are changing up to 25-30 cats a month not to mention turbos.Ask any of the tech's online or Advisors.
