So I have these little problems and not so little problems with my Jetta ..... not so little problem, water pump .... it seems like it does not want to circulate the coolant any more, I have my air bag light on all the time and I have that annoying ticking coming from the dash like James had. I thought my warranty was over but I called NL today and spoke with Paul to get a price on the water pump repair ...... I still have 10K and 6 months on my warranty ....... score

Consider getting the timing belt done while they are in there, it comes partly off to get the pump out anyways.

Oh, and Paul is a good guy over at NL, I deal with him whenever I can.

Lucky you... I just had to do mine and I am at 93000km so I did the timing belt at the same time. $1000 OUCH.

Yes most definitely getting the timing belt done .... I had actually bought the parts and was going to do it myself as I thought I was good until 100K for warranty but I was mistaken.

James I have 103828 km on the clock. I am seriously thinking of unloading it soon and getting something newer. I would like to step up to Audi or a 3 series BMW

oh ya, that ticking noise was actually the turn-signal stalk...was not a cheap repair either :(

I just got rid of my car..was kind of sad to see it drive away but on to smaller and better things..and older

I remember them telling me it was at 100,000 km when I bought the car. I used that tow service that VW provides, road side assistance or something, it was fairly painless. Except when the tow truck driver scraped my stainless steel exhaust tips across the sidewalk when he was pulling it out of the drive way.

The water pump is a serious issue. I blew mine when I decided to be retarded.
It cost me a head gasket to :(
The total bill was around $2000
The water pump was around $900

So, air bag light could be a few problems, the most simple of all is to check and make sure that none of the wires under your seat are disconnected. other than that you'll need to scan the veh. The ticking in the dash is either the hazard light switch which is the relay for the signal lights or the signal light arm itself (this is more common) and definately do the timing belt, tensioner and serpentine belt while you're in there doing the water pump.
