Can someone enlighten me as to exactly what vagcom is? I think it's a piece of software that you run on your laptop with a cable that connects to your car? True? If so, how to I get the software and the cable? Is this what VW service people use to interface with the car? What kind of cool stuff can I do with vagcom?

middleton the vagcom is basically a simplier version of the dealers VAG tool.. it will display fault codes and such to tell u what is going on with your car.. so if you maf fails and u dont' know for sure you can scan for the error and then put your stock box back on and go to the dealer and they aren't gonna know about your cai.. kinda thing.. very useful tool to keep.. plus you can program aspects of your car like the instrument cluster, disable DRLs.. bunch of stuff

mk4's are very finnicky cars, and display the check engine light (CEL) for a number of different solutions. some as stupid as the guy who filled up your car forgot to close the gas cap up to a cylinder misfire.

it just saves you a trip to the dealership for small stuff if you can fix it yourself.

Hrm - cheaper than getting it from Rosstech? I was thinking of the uber cable that acts as a licence dongle. Cause I'll want it on a laptop and a few PCs.
