  • I have EFI questions!

specifically megasquirt questions. i will soon be building a mk2 2.0 ABA Turbo (with dave's help of course). Specifically i will be using a k26 (possible a hybrid of somesort) 440cc green top injectors, walbro in line fuel pump capable of somewhere around 250hp.

There's a guy on vortex that builds mk2 wiring harness' for megasquirt kits. now i've read material about megasquirt and i'm still abit lost. i was planning on purchasing the"megasquirt EFI PCB 2.2 system. (completly built) kit" due to price, and simplicity, and i wanted to go stand alone route to be worry free, and maybe to go to a larger setup in the future. my questions is really is this setup ideal? or will i constantly be running into problems?

sorry i'm new to this stuff guys but anyhelp would be great. even other suggestions. like SDS or 034EFI. might be a better route. thanks guys, i appreciate it!

    Re: I have EFI questions!

    Some specifics on the system

Features / Benefits of the MegaSquirt EFI System

Onboard MAP sensor for NA or boosted engines up to 21psi!
    Speed density or Alpha-N.
Use High Impedance Injectors or Low impedance with resistor pack inline
Compatible with output from narrowband and wideband O2 sensors.
Log data on your laptop for later analysis.
Tuning software is free for download and regularly updated with new features.
Open Source design - all code and hardware information is available online.
Includes proper female DB37 connector and shell for your wiring harness.
    Additional Features

Professionally Machined Brushed Aluminum Endplates. Excellent Fit and Finish!
    Flanged ends for easy mounting.
The crystal is glued in place to reduce sensitivity to vibrations.
The MAP sensor input has been brought out to the outside of the case using a barbed bulkhead fitting. This allows for easy connection of your vacuum/boost line and reduces the chances of harming the MAP sensor.
OPTIONAL: On assembled units I will be happy to load the MSnS-Extra firmware to allow full ignition control of distributor based or EDIS distributorless ignition. Just email me when you order to let me know you'd like the MSnS-Extra Firmware loaded in the order comments during checkout.

Fully upgradeable to MegaSquirt II Fuel and Ignition Controller

This unit can be upgraded to MegaSquirt 2 and you'll have the following new/improved features:

Ignition control (full spark timing advance control, dwell control, etc) for one coil/distributor and EDIS systems,
All tuning tables at 12×12 resolution
On-board stepper motor driver for IAC stepper control (this will require a few jumpers to be added on the MegaSquirt PCB)

      Re: I have EFI questions!

This setup will require time for tuning. shouldn't be bad but you'll have to be paitient. Some dyno time would be in order too me thinks.

I don't have any direct experience with stand alone but it sounds like fun. Also very reliable from what I have read and heard.

          Re: I have EFI questions!

I talked to the gus who make that mk2 4mo 2L turbo autocross car a couple years back and they said they used the SDS system and they had it up and running in a day. Also it is a local company so you know support will be good. On the other hand I know there are plans to build a mega squirt system on the net which would be awesome and cheap.

                        Re: I have EFI questions!

I am running megasquirt and I am super happy with it, I have now done 3 cars with MS, all are trouble free and plenty of room to go, I would weigh out the options, megasquirt is a do it yourself endevor but well worth it(you gain so much knowledge while assembling and testing the system) as for SDS, we have installed that into a car as well, SDS is a great system but I am going to install MS on all the project cars we do standalone on! my 2 cents

thanks for ringing in! i won't lie, i'm not very electonically inclined. and thats the problem i'm facing. all i hear is great reviews about megasqurit, its just i don't trust my self to put it together. althogh i would love to gain the knowledge!

the only thing i didn't really like, just from being on megasquirts website. i was getting confusued as to what to buy there's assembled ECU's and then all this other stuff you have to buy, (not very helpfull for a newb). with sds it was pretty much "if you hand us $X you'll get everything you need, and if i end up efing it up there a calgary based company that i can run to for help.

i'm torn as to what to get. i still have a bit of time to think about it. but yea a GB should defenetly be organized.
