  • VW 2004 US Lineup and changes

Here is what is going on down south for the 2004 VW lineup. This gives us an idea of what we are getting as well but our selection is limited compared to the americans. It looks like the wagon maybe getting a chrome grill only which is good for me and a new blue too!

The Chrome bumpers are the rubstrips with a chrome strip in them euro spec has this already as an option. I think all the dubs will go to 20THAE style clusters soon

See how this Passat has chrome strips in the bumpers well the new Jettas will be like this.

i wonder the cost of the euro cluster for our cars then without the full mfa? dealer is still probably a rip off and would be cheaper to get one from europe.. the phaeton and r32 are freaking awesome though

If R32s where coming to Canada I would be getting one for sure, but they are not coming to Canada as a result of bumper regulations is what I heard.:(:(

Can't you drive down, pick one up, then drive it back? Heck I would drive you down to the US just to see one on a lot The R32 sounds so awesome.

Edit: Also if its a regulation concerning the bumper, can't you just replace the bumper with a stock canadian GTI bumper, then somehow get the vehicle approved? I am 100% certain there must be a process to get an imported vehicle approved for insurance and registration.

                    See this page:

                    http://www.tc.gc.ca/pacific/faq/road/importation.htm

"Some vehicles from the United States do not meet specific Canadian safety requirements and are therefore inadmissible to Canada. However, there are vehicles that can have modifications made that will allow them to be admitted into Canada (for example daytime running lights). Following those modifications the Registrar of Imported Vehicles will clear your automobile for entry into Canada."

I looked up the regulations concerning bumpers and found this:

"Some imported vehicles will require modifications to existing bumper(s) before the vehicle can be registered and licensed. Some vehicles can be readilly modified by substituting Canadian parts for US parts. Some vehicles... may require a bumper test, as stated in CMVSS215"

So if its a bumper issue, the government has already provided a work-around.

Anything can be done but it is all a matter of money. But think if you buy the car put regular bumpers on it bring it up pass the regulations change the bumpers back crash you car and have no insurance cuz they found that your bumpers where illegal?

I would like one but I am just not sure if it would be worth the cash and risk, by then a TT 3.2 will be here and that will be just as good maybe better.

Changing your bumper doesn't void your insurance, if it did they wouldn't be able to sell body kits, right? You could always just leave the bumper "legal", I don't think driving around an R32 with a GTI bumper would really be that bad There are many alternatives. I don't think it can be THAT expensive, I mean a new bumper, an inspection fee or some tax are pretty small costs compared to the prices of cars you are looking at.

Personally I would rather have an R32 than a TT for lots of reasons. Although it may be easier for me to say this having not yet seen your dad's TT!

Anyhow I agree there would be some "hassle" as well as costs involved, theres no way to say how much until the car comes out and you can actually make a call and find out. Best case scenario, you have a US dealership swap the bumper and certify the car, and you just make one phone call and drive it up. Worst case scenario, the car spends a year being crashed into brick walls with crash-test dummies at the wheel before they let you have it

do the US spec r32s have headlight washers like the euro's if so then I would keep the r32 front for sure.. plus the r32 front is basically an oetty so it looks real tight.

I'm wondering about the bumper issues too. I would eventually like to put an R32 front bumper on my car, but would that screw my insurance around?

actually when I first insured my car they asked if it is modified and stuff i guess my rates will go up if I ever want my stuff covered.. which is a good and bad thing..
