Any one have an issue with using a signal light and now the ticking noise wont go away. I was making a right hand corner using the signal light 2 days ago. After I finished the corner the signal turned off but the noise remained. Uncontrollable ticking. Rapid, about 4 times as fast as the turn signal rate. Even fsater then the hazard rate. I found if I took the hazard light module(behind the hazard button) apart (disconected it) the noise stopped. The problem is...cant use my signal lights being a circuit system. So right now I drive with it disconnected but on seeing a cop or making a turn at a busy intersection have to plug it back in. 2 days of this is enough. I halled it inside today and took the module apart. I dont see any broken connections.
Anyone else have this issue? If so what was the fix for you? I am going to buy a new module tomorrow and see if that works. What ever the out come I will post it back here incase anyone else has this issue.

Sounds like the signal arm it self. I had the exact same problem. I fixed the hazard switch and that was not the problem. It turned out to be the siginal arm. I believe the arm was only 77 bucks for my 01 golf (no cruise control).

    Hope that helps you!

Do you have the revised hazard module?

        http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/recal...p?recno=12758&

Nordex: Are all your signal lights working? In the front there is a dual filament bulb, one for signal and one for when the light switch is turned on, and I don't think it matters which filament burns out for it to trip.

Or if you replaced the signal bulbs with LED lights, that could do it if they aren't setup to give the right amperage to the relay.

Mine started doing this a week ago, all lights are working fine. Sounds like it is coming from the dash near the center of it. Mine is worse when doing a lane change and I don't totally turn it on just flash it a couple times. When you find the fix please post.

I'd be willing to bet either one of your signal lights is burnt out or you put in aftermarket bulbs that aren't compatible, I could be wrong though.

$400 ouch! I bought a MFD stalk for about $65 a while back and I am sure you can get them out of the states or the chinese knockoffs pretty cheap.

                    Re: ticker

Just a wuick word....your noise is coming from the center of the dash b/c that is where the ticker module is. I have no idea what the real name of it is. It sits connected to your hazard button. Its about 2"x1.25"x1".

I was worried it was my signal light arm. It happened right after me turning the corner. All lights work fine when I have th emodule hooked up. I have not changed anylights. My headlights are the same that I have been using for well over a year now. Signal lights work normal and when the sound is racing on my signal lights are not flickering or anything. I was able(one time only) to wiggle the signal arm and get teh ticking to stop. Liek I said one time only and now I cant repeat that success.
I will try and get the answer today and write the results

Ya, OEM replacement + install was in the 375 range, and i had it done by a mechanic who doesnt charge VW shop rates either.

                        Re: ticker

results are gonna be a few days. I went to Vanee here and they wouldnt let me try a new clicker module claiming since it was electrical I had to pay for it first and there is a no return policy on them. So they talked me into(promised me) it was the actual turn signal arm. Came to $140 after tax. I came home to install it and thought "too complicated for me". I am worried about airbag and such and really would feel better someone else working around one. So I must take it out to the private VW mechanic and let him do it.

The exact same thing happened in my 99 Grand Am. I had to replace the whole turn signal arms. Thing wasn't cheap.

There is no need to replace the signal arm in 99% of the time, just buy some electrical contact cleaner and clean the switches (make sure it is plastic safe). Replacing the hazard switch does not usaully fix the problem, I have customers that have gone and had thr "recall" done and the problem is still there. Clean the switches and amazingly it goes away.

OKay worth a try. Now where would I pick up this electrical contact cleaner? I have never heard of the stuff. Would I still have to take apart the steering to use it? Getting the wheel off is a pain in the a$$. I would rather spend the money taking the chance and fixing it that way then spending another few hundred on a cheap VW part.
