Everywhere you go, you see the 1000 Km per tank advertised for the TDI, but I have never been able to achieve it, I found a thread on TDI Club about driving for best fuel economy. I puttered around the city for 2 weeks trying to milk this tank for all I could and I squeezed out the 1000 Km. I drove 50 km with the fuel light on, sketchy times, but no problems. I wonder what I could do on the highway?

Re: It Can Be Done!
I drove Vernon-Calgary, 100km around Calgary and Calgary-Vernon on one tank for a total well over 1000km. It came in at ~1300km.
Oh, by the way, I have the 5-speed automatic with tiptronic.
1000km (600mi) tanks are pretty normal with a standard transmission. Lots of people over on tdiclub can do 800-850mi on a single tank. Amazing how far these cars can go.
My last 5 tanks have all been 1000km+ and I have been filling before the light comes on. If I have any less than 650km by half-a-tank I get grumpy

Re: It Can Be Done!
i dont think i've ever kept it under 100km/hr for a whole tank.. so i will probably never see anything close to that. going from 90bhp to around 160bhp doesnt help burn any less fuel either.Stefan

Re: It Can Be Done!
My foot is way to heavy to ever get a good tank, I think my best has been 950ish highway. I also only get 750 or so in town but then again I never run my tanks very low.Name: Brent

Re: It Can Be Done!
It was just a reg fill, no vent fill. Uasially with my driving style I get high 800's. It takes 50km's off the tank when I put the summer wheels on too. I know the Golf's are lighter and don't they generally get better milage better then the Jetta?

Re: It Can Be Done!
1200 on the highway is normal for me. Usually fill up with around 53 liters. Heck, I get over 1000 kms city driving when on summer diesel.
Vent guts are long since gone, giving around 63 liters capacity. So really 1400 is possible.
No point in keeping the vent guts with a diesel.Last edited by Red90; 10-20-2006, 01:12 PM.

A car just shouldn't be getting over a 1000 kms on one tank! I consider myself lucky if I hit 500.
Measuring by km/tank is silly unless you keep it consistant. But 1000k on a trip meter is probably neat to see.
