  • turbo upgrades for mk4 gti 1.8t

just wondering what kind of turbos i would be looking at for doing a turbo upgrade for my 1.8t gti.
what trim is needed for intake side and exhaust side?
would something like this work?-->T3/T04E turbo, it's a 50 trim intake and .48ar exhaust side

also is there anyone here that would have a good turbo for sale, i want something bigger than the ko3 that i have, but something that wont lag but will still give good gains,

Nothing off the sr or rb will work due to different shape on exhaust housing. You would need a new manifold to fit the exhaust housing. If you want something bolt on check out ATP turbo, or APR for turbo upgrades for the VW. I would reccomend the GT25 or 28.

As a few others on the baord can tell you... don't waste your time piecing a kit together.. but something with readily available software to insure it works right out of the box. May be cheaper, but also provides many more headaches. I beleive the more popular ones are KO4 kits, GT28r, GT28rs, GT2871r (Which pushes the internal limits IMO)
Check out ATP, APR, and I believe Garrett. DOnt know much about other VW software companies.. (TAPP? REVO? Upsolute?)

I am selling my 28r turbo, but it comes attached to my gti.

R-audi speaks the truth. If you have the funds, I would go with apr, as they are prolly the most complete kits. Their stg3 kit uses a 28r, stg3+ a 28rs(I think) both turbos make good power with minimal lag, for an excellent daily driver. If you go this way be prepared to dish out $8-$10 000, after everything is said and done.

Not cheap, but the best bet for an "easy" 300whp

Re: turbo upgrades for mk4 gti 1.8t

If you want a few extra ponies and some nice torque without headaches, I would recomend a K04-001. It's an easy upgrade because it requires no custom manifolds or anything....it simply bolts straight up to your existing one.

With good software and other bolt on's, you can make upwards of 220whp and 250Ttq. It's slightly better than a K03 sport, but produces alot more torque. You maintain drivability and the turbo spools quickly.

The turbo itself is $800(US) and the software is another $500ish (US).

I suggested this option because not many people have the $$$ nor want to spend that kinda $$$ on a BT kit.

Some argue that the K04-001 is not worth it because you can get a BT kit for an extra $1000-$1500(us), but alot of kits do not come with software or FMIC's. Not to mention, they are often difficult to tune and install.

ko4's are for babys BT are for real men. I been in the BT game now for almost 4 years and I dont miss the little ko3 turbo.. I would just build your own kit, and save some money, send me a Pm if you wanna know more.

Re: turbo upgrades for mk4 gti 1.8t

what it really comes down to is what your price range and your power goals are and try and find the best route to get you where you wanna go. If you need a monster and are sick of that guy in the c6 'vette next to you than you gotta go at least GT28RS. But it's $6000 US for the kit, $1000 for an LSD, and at least $800 for tires to put it down ( not to mention the addons... intercooler+++++). A K04 kit is $2300 and is still lots of fun, no need for any additions, and still streetable all year around.

Re: turbo upgrades for mk4 gti 1.8t

K04 might be more worthwhile in a awd than the later 1.8t's, but either way you'll be bored with it after about a month.

If your on a budget and willing to deal with a little frustration, then go with one of the atp eliminators. More power than a ko4, with potential for 300+whp.
