Im really not sure what to do. Id persume most of you guys on springs must be lowered year round? So whether I do it now, or wait until spring, Im going to be lowered through winter sometime. But this got me to thinking, if I hold off from putting in these 55/40 springs now, by the time its spring I could afford coilovers. So what would you guys do in my situation?

Hoping for some quick responses as I supposed to be getting this lowered by tomorrow!

if waiting until next year would result in better suspension, i'd say wait.

Coils I find to be overrated unless you plan to track the car. If you're just goin for looks, the cupkit route is effective and cheap..and ive found a little less stiff of a ride

Alot of the guys around here ride low all winter..myself included. I personally hate it..you know how when it snows each lane has a median of snow so-to-speak (inbetween tire tracks)...well its not a good feeling to hear that **** scraping along the bottom of your car for 10km+ on mcleoud trail..and that happens frequently.

Also, riding low on 18s is one thing, riding low on 15s in an entirely different beast. When theres snow on the ground, i cant get into the tim hortons drive thru thats closest to my house..This is a huge issue for my lazy-caffine-addicted-ass.

IMO it just doesnt make sense to lower a car right now, we're too close to winter

Well thanks for all your quick responses guys, I was excited to finally get rid of the 4x4 but I guess if I going to do it, it makes sense to wait. George didnt seem to have any problems with my short notice cancel, and now I guess I have until next spring to really figure things out.

James, coilovers just seemed like a good option, so I could could get the best of both worlds. In the summer I could go real low, but by winter raise it up. Do you still not think they are worth it for this reason alone?

^ no because lots of them tend to sieze up :( and eventhough some coils have lifetime warrenty i don't think they cover that. anti corosion spray might help a bit.

Ya, hardy pretty much said what I was going to say...Without lubing the coils very frequently they'll seize up within months (maybe not all, but one..and it only takes one to screw those plans up)

the anti-corrioson spray works, but you seriously have to be on top of it...and even then, i think you may be surprised with the range you get out of coils..They can go low, but you'll never get close to stock ride height even with them jacked up all the way, its still much, much lower than stock

with coils you either get low... or lower.

i personally would go for just springs. coilovers i've found to be really firm.
i would also wait till after winter.

I like my FK kit in the winter. I'm still convinced that the stock susp let me blow up my oil pan easier because while it may be higher when not under load, as soon as you hit a bump, the damn thing has far more travel than the stiffer cupkit. I went over to Vancouver in a snow storm last Nov, in the Jetta on 15s and lowered, and loved it far more than the Exploder.

Still thinking about getting a skid plate though for those big chunks of ice that fall off trucks wheel wells.

Thanks again for your help guys. I figured if I wait until spring Ill be able to afford a skip plate and a rear sway bar along with the suspension. This also gives me more time to research coilovers and decide whether they are an good bet or not.
