On this note, sounds like its pretty important to store the summer rims in the house, as the garage will obviously be below +8C all winter. How important is it to have them inside?

He doesnt mean the tires will explode or something, he means at +8 and below, you dont have as good traction on summer tires so you should switch to winters/all seasons

I leave my rims in a garage all winter, havent had any problems with that

Yah it's just the temps. I used to wait till the first actual snow, because I thought it was all about the tread, but it's the actual rubber. Summer have good grip cause they are soft, but they turn to hockey pucks when cold. So even with the best new tread, and no snow/ice, you can still slide right off the road in cold temps.

The other counter-intuitive thing is to put your best tread tires on the rear, even on a front wheel or all-wheel drive car. Understeer is far easier to correct than oversteer.

Saturday for me. Nokians go on and Rims/Summer tread get the full cleaning before storage. I leave my mud flaps on all summer. Not sure why but I dont think it looks that bad.
