I have an 05 golf GLS TDI with tiptronic. Recently tiptronic has stopped working. That is, I push the shifter over to the +/- area and the display on the cluster does not change. Also pushing it forwards/backwards yields no results.
From what I understand there is a small switch that detects if the shifter is pushed to the side or not, and this may have failed.
I spoke to the local VW dealership (Royal VW in Vernon) and they can't look at it until the 24th. It's still under warranty, but they said I can fix it if I like.
So, I am looking for a guide of some sort on how to disassemble the console without breaking it. I'm sort of new to taking apart new cars and I'm worried that I'll miss a screw somewhere or pull on something thinking it's clipped in when it's not, etc.
Has anybody had this problem before, and if so, was the solution to simply replace the switch?
Does anybody have a walkthrough for removing the shifter cover and surrounding console if required to get down to this switch?
Thanks in advance.
