  • Help! DAMN DOOR

I have this problem with my side pass door on my 02 gti. It seems when ever the body of the car flex's like going up a drive way. or switching from hard throttle to break, or any larger bumps on the road, i hear this large crack sound happin from some where on that door. It drives me nuts. It use to do it only now and then when i first got the car, but not it does it so easy. The door also does not close that well and i am woundering if it relates to that problem? any way to adjust the door? or has any one had this problem before and know what i could do to fix it? thanks!

Lube the hinges and the spring. Don't be shy with the lube either. WD40 is the best.

Its quite a loud crack sound. It almost sounds like some one kicks the outside of the door when it happins. You think lube could really fix that?

Sounds kinda like something it loose in there, although i dont know what it could be, really. if its making that much noise, and it is related to the door not closing, i would think you would be able to wiggle the door or latch and see obvious play in the hinges (or latch). Could it be something stupid like a poorly mounted after-market speaker thats banging around in there? Some guys use wood to make custom mounting brackets, and that can crack over time (i've seen MDF used in doors where the wood gets wet and swells and the speaker just falls out.) Of course, grease is a good thing anyways if you haven't done it in a while. WD40 works, if you have to buy stuff anyways, lithium grease is better and won't break down and rubber bushings or bumpers that may be in there (some hinges have rubber components, not sure if the VW ones do.. )
