  • Inexpereinced Mechanics/Shops

This is what happens when a shop torques a wheel lug too tight, and then you take it to an inexpereinced mechanic/shop to take the nut off. This was the end result and $120 in labour. Does anybody want a free wheel .

Holy $hit batman, I hope you didn't pay that bill and made them buy you a new rim! There is no way in hell that should ever happen let alone the fact they could have drilled the head of the bolt off.

I think that was a little too much damage. I wasn't there but I have done quite a few of these same customer concerns and I have never damaged the wheel. There are ways of getting wheels off without doing little to no damage, all you have to do is be ingenuitive... drill out the lug ??? Sorry to hear about this, but that is terrible work.

I can tell you right now, since I did your wheels. We took extra care to make sure that they were not over tightened and they were all hand torqued. Any chance these were on your front hubs? Because those studs were starting corrosion on the ends and were very hard for the impact gun CMS had to take off in the first place. You may want to check into the hubs if they are leaking and causing rust/corrosion.

Don't know why they would cause that much damage taking the stud out, it isn't that ahrd done it a few times now.

Hubs on the BMW's, like mine, the studs go through the back of the hub. The bearings are in a sealed area but if the backing plate behind the hub is bent then water gets in and can get to the studs.

I mentioned lugs were rusted/corroded but I don't sell or talk to the customers so it wasn't my deal.

If this was your right rear that was getting repaired by AWR and they put it on, there is a huga change they didn't hand torque it. I've heard of that before as well.

This was from back in May when I first went to put on the 19"s. It wasnt from rust at all, was just put on way too tight. Once they got the wheel off, it just unscrewed by hand. The shop was Mikes Auto or something in Marda Loop.
