Looks like I will be replacing the clutch on my '00 GTI. Any recommendations as to where it's cheap? Should I go with OEM or after market? What are the benifits? Thx.

Re: Replacing clutch on my GTI
Agree with the above mentioned. I ordered my clutch and flywheel out of San Antonio. Cost me $400 for the whole set up. SHipping was included in that. I am getting mine installed locally from a VW mechanic that works in a private shop now. He didnt like Vanee here in town. Go figure. I save over half on labour. I too went with a sachs Vr6 clutch. A lightened flywheel.

Originally posted by AchillesPardon my ignorance, but is that the brand or is it for VR6 engine? I have a 1.8T, will this work? Do you mind sharing the info of where you got it? PM me if you have to. Thx.

Originally posted by AchillesThank for the info guys, much clearer now. As for performance, what benifits should I see out of it versus the stock OEM clutch?
Benefits of the lightened flywheel are faster reving, perhaps reducing drivetrain loss and thus giving a few hp as well?Simon

Re: Replacing clutch on my GTI
Heads up. Finished the clutch and flywheel install today. Runs smooth. Will take an hour or so of driving to get used to the new feel but I am very pleased so far with it. Total $490 for VR6 clutch and 14 lb flywheel. $380 for install and $10 for the stretch bolts that some how went missing in transport....TY Canada Post. Oh and TY Vanee VW here in Lethbridge for sending the bolts I ordered Friday(to be here Monday) to Ontario. I am sure someone could use them.
