  • 1.8 T gti question

hey just wondering if putting a 91 octane apr chip on a 2001 gti 1.8t will give the same output as a 2002 or 2003 gti 1.8t. i was just wonderng cause i know that the earlier mk4 has like 150 hp and the later mk4 has 180, anyone know?

If you mean if both of the cars are chipped, I think we did some dyno days and the answer was "not quite"

But chipped 01 vs not chipped 03... yeah probably same or better

If you have a 150 HP engine you will come up about 10 hp and 25 lb ft shy of a 180 hp engine as the 150's in the Golf's use a K03 turbo whereas the 180's use a K03 sport (which has a K04 compressor, IIRC).

A kickass upgrade for you is a K04 kit as it's generally a direct bolt on and will give you the 30 hp you lack between yours and the 180's as well as another 30'ish (with appropriate software, of course).

So your saying with a 01 1.8t if you get a KO4 kit plus a 91 octane apr chip you will about 60 extra horse? But without the KO4 kit you will only be around 180 horse after a 91 octane apr chip?
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

A chip on the 150 should put you right around 150 - 155 hp at the wheels (the 150's were grossly under-rated, again IIRC) whereas on my 180 a Revo 'stage 2' took me from 160 to 170 HP at the wheels and increased torque by over 50 lb/ft.

you can't refer to them at 150 or 180hp versions, since the AWW was 150hp but had the same turbo as the 180 only less boost. thx
