  • Front Sway Bar

Hey guys... I'm wondering what a front sway bar does, and why would someone want one. I think I have a pretty good understanding of the rear sway bar (helps reduce body roll, helps induce oversteer). I was reading around alot on Vortex in the Suspension forum that people are removing their front sways, or at the very least not upgrading them. What do you think?

Correct. A rear bar increases oversteer, a front bar increases understeer. So yes, if you spend a bunch of money getting a bigger rear bar, then you do the same thing and get a bigger front bar, you've basically wasted the money cause they cancel each other out and make your car heavier. :P

The main reason people replace the front sway is clearance - the stock will rub if you drop more than 1.8 inches or so.

MK4s are big and heavy with a tendancy to understeer. So adding stiffer springs and a big rear bar is usually enough to give you neutral, or slight oversteer which is what most people like.
