    Re: car troubles..

I really don't know where they are going with this repair, you took it in for a small leak from the hose and suddenly the head gasket is gone... I hope they are not expecting you to pay for this. I still think this is a simple mistake from the coolant repair. It is so simple to find this concern all you need is a digital infared thermometer.

I sure hope this is resolved soon, what a nightmare... do not take there again.
    Good luck
    Richard

      Re: car troubles..

If the car overheated to a certain extent, it can wreck the headgasket.. and it can also warp the block which both could have been done originally when this happened on the highway.
The deale said the took it for a spin around the block.. most likely just not enough to bring it to operating temp.

I have been to Vanee in the past and never had any bad experiences.. it was brought in to reapir a hose.. who would have guessed a head gasket as well? It shoul dhave been driven more.. but most people including myself dont want someone driving around in my car too much.

            Re: car troubles..

I had this exact same problem with my 2001 1.8T
I decided to top it out... That was smart
I blew the thermostat, water pump and blew a head gasket driving back into town after it overheated (like a 3 minute drive)
3 weeks and a little over 2 grand later and it was good as new.
Hopefully youll get off a bit more lucky.

Is this a 1.8T/VR6? If its a 2.0L I would say... spending that much on that engine sucks.

Port job at the same time possibly? I don't think its that much extra work? Would make me personally feel better about things afterwards, knowing that at least that much good came out of it.

                      and ya, 2k on a 2.0l would suck..unless that 2.0l happens to be a 16valve

Well then we know if has never got hot enough to warp the head...
Sounds like it is the shops fault, there is no way you can go from a nicked coolant hose to a wrecked engine without any blame on their part.

Sounds to me like the car was angry with you because of the yellow headlights it was wearing.

Anyone living in Southern Alberta who has a VW I know of a better solution to your car trouble needs. I too HATE Vanee. They have screwed me so many times. Charged me $20 to check tire pressure after I told them to ONLY change my oil(which I provide my own oil). Not sure what part of "dont touch anything else on my car" they dont understand. Lack of communication I guess.
If you need work done give me a call or PM me. THe guy is a VW mechanic with years of service. He and Vanee had a slight run in so he left and now working for a small but very capable outfit. Plus its lots cheaper on labour.
