  • Glass cover

I tried to do the polishing to the plastic lenses as stated by DIY logs. My results are terrible. I have polished till I am blistered. Same with all the sanding. Still foggy. Used all the recommended supplies.
I want to swich them to glass covers. Any one know a link or company who sells these? I do NOT want to swtich the whole light assembly. Then again if glass lenses(maybe even new plastic ones) cost the same or close to a new assembly I might consider it.

i went from a rubbing compound down to a 2000 grit, and then plasticx, noticable improvement, but for me, the rock pits are still deeper.

                  Re: Glass cover

I started with 600 then 800 then 2000 grit sandpaper. I used a scratch remover from turle wax and then plastix. Noticable difference from using the plastic but still full of haze. Mine were very pitted. Still have some pits in them and like Stefan said I think they are too far gone. I was only able to find the 2000 grit at an auto body supplier here in Lethbridge. I have seen a post were a guy said he used 12,000 grit. I am at the point were it is easier to repace then to keep trying different things. Right now I have spent $25 for nothing really.
So no one knows of glass lenses or replacing oem plastic?

i dont think Hella will send you just the lense (if they do, let me know ). I would agree that trying anything else is a bit pointless, as it sounds like we have tried the same things, with not much luck. I didnt think 12000 grit existed, maybe he meant 1200. If you find something new, get that 3M adhisive coating on them. I hear it works well. Maybe you can find a good price on 2 sets of HIDs...

The mothers powerball worked for me on my truck lights. A buddy of mine brought it over and I think he used the plastix. This didn't remove any pitting, but it cleaned the lense pretty good.

That 3m stuff is stupid expensive - at least the headlight rock guard I looked at was all around 50 bucks. For hids maybe but not my Helix.
