  • I must have done something bad in a past life, Guess what now!!!

As you all know I had problems with my GTI, now I jumped in my Audi today (also a 1.8t) and drive a few hundred meters and all of a sudden the car feels a little rough and has a huge drop in power. Well that can only mean one thing....

    I BLEW A COILPACK!!!!!

    Damn these 1.8t's:angry:

Well, this car will have to go to the dealership tommorow too now and I'm stuck without any cars for a day.

well, i'm not 100% sure, but from all the reading i've done on other peoples experiences, they say the number 1 tell tale sign is the reduced power. Now, I have to admit, it's not the worst reduction in power, but the car definately run ruff right now.

I dunno - both times when I blew a coil, the car was undrivable. It moved, but the sulphur reek and the gutless power were untolerable. I'd say it's like driving from 10km/hr in 5th gear.

Edit: I say again, buy a spare or 2. 20 bucks for a coil, or no car for a day+?

              Well Khyron,

I'm not 100% sure its a coil issue then. Honestly, there is definately more power than that, I can still take the car to speed.

I'm probably going to have the car towed in the morning to avoid and further damage.

Volinder my coilpack blew when I was driving over 100Km/h ... its freaky. I was looking at my speed while I noticed my CEL light and then all of a sudden... wham.... power is non existent.

I certainly wouldn't drive with a blown coil - aside from engine stress of running on 3 cylinders, you are clogging the very expensive cat with unburnt fuel. And you can bet it won't die till after waranty is up.

FYI - the cat retails for 1500 US. Risk if you wish.

                      Well,

They said it was a bad sparkplug, but they still replaced all the coilpacks. So the audi is back and running great.

As for the GTI, the mystery continues...
