  • 25th Anniversary vs. MKV R32

Well this is an exploritory discussion but I am really wanting to get a MKV these days and with checking out details on the Vortex here would be the two best choices in my mind.

First up is the 25th anniversary edition which not much is known about but would be a 2.0T GTI with probably cosmetic updates such as body kit, new wheels and maybe a unique colour as a 2008 model. The other rumor is the that the MKV R32 should be coming to Canada in summer 2007 available in 3 and maybe 5 door but DSG only. The car would be obviously be all wheel drive and a 3.2 V6 with interior upgrades and possibly in that lovely Deep Blue colour. I assume the R32 would be more money as it is estimated to be 32K US, so probably 40K here.

Anyway so what car would you pick and why??

R32 all the way.. i love the brushed look on the grill.. it has better seats.. and AWD

only crappy part is the DSG instead of a 6spd

that being said a 25th chipped would run laps around it tho.

I think I'd have to say the 25th. I dont think I could spend that much money and not get a manual gearbox.

Isn't there talk of Alpha returning to North America and other interesting developments in '08? Perhaps you should simply wait it out...

^^^ That is a good point as other cars could come into the mix but I doubt we will have access to affordable Alfas till 2010ish with perhaps an expensive sports car before 08-09.

I would much rather have that Volvo you posted I think.

I assume you would like something semi-practical?

I also assume you want to stay euro

Well yes this by no means is the only 2 cars I would think for my next purchase but just the best of the MKVs. I would need practicality and Euro I think, I also hope to keep the Smart as a second car.

The Volvo is nice would have to see how it looks in person and I would be concerned about the price point of it as well.

That could kill it I think. The new C70 has all the same options as my car (except mine doesn't have leather) and it's priced out at 55,000 up which is substantially more than what I paid. Also, it's not hard to get an S40 into the high 30's low 40's if you add the T5 with sport package.

That said, I really hope it doesn't and they bring it out under the s40 price point as I'd love to see it compete with the GTI (and would be in the running for my next car).

Wow, nice to see the Volvo love around here anyway

Personally, I think the 25th AE is a better buy. It will be substantially cheaper than the R32 and with a few mods, be just as quick as the R32. Plus, I heard somewhere that the 25th will have a tuned 2.0T cranking out 220hp rather than the 200hp that our current 2.0T puts out.

Not only that, think about gas prices a year or two from now . I would much rather have a 4 cylinder rather than a 6 cylinder with AWD when premium gas costs $2.00/L.

I'm also assuming that the 25th will be cheaper on insurance aswell. First off, the car is cheaper to purchase than the R32 and second, replacement parts will be cheaper on the 25th because it is basically a GTI (in a differnt "outfit"). Things such as AWD make insurance prices go up.

I am having the same thoughts. The original plan was for a TT, but now i'm just not sure the lack of practicality is right. This month alone I've used my car so many times to transport more than 2 people, or bring home stuff I've bought at Ikea or whatever. Maybe one of these is right for me? Oh well... still have lots of time to figure that out.
