Can anybody who's been out to Race City for the Solo1 and Solo2 events fill me in? To my understanding the Solo classes are timed laps with space between the cars, ie no passing. What's the difference between the two classes?

Is this the best schedule? http://www.bishop.ab.ca/CSCC/schedule.html

And what else should I know before I get signed up and head out?

Solo 1 is the whole track lapping with no passing and i believe you had to sign up and pay at the begining of the year.

Solo 2 is pylons / slalom course at usualy the south end of the road course or on the oval using the infield and some banking. This you can jsut come out and pay money and run if you pass tech. It is also a good idea to pre-register for an event so they know your coming.

Solo 1 you need a license for, there are 2 more events left this year. You also need a min. 4 point 3i inch harness. It is full road course, timed with no passing etc. Very fun, precise driving of a known course, squeezing better times is the art.... likes a lot of HP for the long straights though.

Solo 2 is a slower speed (top speed.. not driving speed) where there are cones that dictate the course. This is quite a different discipline, things happen very quickly and you need some pretty good skills to go fast irrespective of car/HP. You get to walk the course first, you will have never seen it before and you get 3-4 goes at driving it as fast as possible with penalties for hitting cones. There are classes which people are divided into and an adjustment factor based on classes so you can compare to the rest of the field. Solo 2 you can pretty much turn up and drive but a little prep/ homework is a good thing. Figure out what class you are in, check out the rules. Also tech this year often happens a couple of days earlier. You can also check out http://cscc.speedracer.ca/forums/ register because I think they hide some forums for non-registered. Seeking advice is the best thing to do. I would be more than happy to help you out with any questions.

Hmm, ok...so how much does it run roughly to install the four point belt? Is there a stealthy way to do this is the MKIV GTI?

Well ideally you want a 6 point harness which will require some tabs welded by your seat base and for the upper straps you want to try to get them horizontal so your spine does not compress if you get in an accident. Further to the ideal speaking you should have a full roll cage so that in the case of a rollover, the lack of mobility offered by the harness doesnt mean that youre head is supporting the weight of the car... As far as minimum, you could get a 4 point clipped to tabs that are bolted to the car at the seat base and maybe child seat anchor points at the rear... lots of this would not be recommended but legal.

If you want, we could meet up at the tech on Monday and discuss a few things. You could get your car teched for Wednesdays Solo 2 and I could go over things a little better
