  • Wash car at home, or at a carwash?

I'm getting ready to do a really thorough wash, clean, ploish, wax of my car. I usually use a coin-op wand-wash, but there always seems to be some road film / soap film left over. I want my car REALLY clean before I start the cleaner process.

I've searched some of the forums and have seen that most people like Mequires Wash, but I'm pretty sure there's a by-law about not washing a car on a "street". I'm sure my lovely neighbors would rat on me and I'd get a nice fine for washing my car.

    Suggestions?
    Jeff

Most off the shelf car wash detergent products are biodegradable. So you don’t need to worry that much on polluting the environment.

Bimmerforums.com has a detailing section and lots of info. I use mother shampoo and its pretty good. Nice smelling too.

Chances of getting a ticket are slim, but ANY soap (including the biodegradable) are illegal if they hit the storm sewer. And the ticket is either 1500 or 2500, I forget.

You can wash it on the lawn, or just take the chance that most people won't rat on such a thing.

I had a drain put in my garage floor so I wash inside. No sun spots FTW!!

Summertime: Wash at home once or twice per week.

Wintertime: Take it to the carwash.

Washing your car on the property is 200% legal AS LONG AS the soap does not get into the gutter. Not like I give a isht though. 99% of the water stays on the driveway anyways and just evaporates.

If you have neighbors that would rat on you for washing your car in the driveway then I suggest throwing a brick through the front window of their house. They deserve it.

just tell them if they confront you that the soap is biodegradable. In the winter i also use the car wash or touchless car wash to keep the salt off the paint. But i never ever ever ever touch those car wash brushes to my paint. If anything touches your paint its a clean wash mint and what ever your like to use to dry ur car. i also wash my car once or twice a week on the drive way. its my favorite. i use meguires gold class soap i find it awesome, i hear mothers is really nice too.

I use Meguiars everything as well. I got like a couple hundred bucks worth of the stuff sitting the basement Won it all free a couple years ago. Bottles of Gold Class wax, tire gel (mmm..grape), wash mitts, tons of microfibre towels, spray detailer, and I dunno what else....enough to keep the car bling for many years to come haha.
