Congratulations, you must drive only 10 over the limit.

A note on the Laser, The Only Detector To Pick Up Laser Scatter (A car being targeted in front of you) is the V1. That is really only what you can hope for in the city with a Detector otherwise get a Jammer or your cheque book out.

P.S. I have my V1 Hardwired and mounted just below the tint band.

        Re: Radar Detector talk

Thats the best way to speed on the highway, always have a "rabbit" in front of you even with a detector. That way when the cop uses Instant On radar he hits the guy in front of you giving you the warning and allowing you to slow down.

I would recommend getting a detector, if it saves you once it pays for itself.

ya, thats what i have been thinking. but the 2.0L is reving hard anything past 140km/h so i try not to go faster than that. a guy from beyond cruised with me back to calgary a month and a bit ago. highway driving is fun but i hate those people going 120 in the fast lane.

I use a hardwired Escort X50 (blue that matches my Jetta dash) got it for $375.00 from future shop because of their price protection plan. I works great compared to my last 3 Bel's, far less false alarms. My friend has a valentine which is also a great detector. We compared them one hight and they both are almost identical for range, falsing etc.

escort is now owned by beltronics (bel), although they still produce detectors under both names. I would assume when it comes to the newest models, they are probably simmilar?

interestingly, the guy from Valentine was part of Escort and started his own company...

So why is radar used on the highway but not the city?

Radar can be used in a moving vehicle which suits the needs of most highway patrol the best. Laser must be stationary. I wouldn't completly discount the use of laser on highway, but the officer would have to be pulled over and not moving.

                    Re: Radar Detector talk

I AM the rabbit. And after talking with some cop friends, they mentioned that they will more often pull over people following the rabbit than the leader himself. Easier to catch, and less respect for someone speeding in the shadow of another. Course if you are RCMP all you say is "I'm a member" and you're let go.

I have a hardwired Bel 985, but I doubt I'd buy another. Useless in the city and the only times I've been caught were perfect ambushes when there wasn't a lot of traffic so I had visual warning before the cop shot/radar went off.

"you're a member" doesn't work too well when you're asked to produce a badge and all you can get out is your hair club for men card......

Oh I didn't mean for us to actually say it - cause yah they ask about your detachment etc. Just bitter that I can't get in on that easy out action.

LOL, that reminds me of my buddies dad...was in RCMP for 20 years...shortly after he retired (went into private security industry) he had a few beers and ended up driving his truck into a ditch and needed a tow.

well, the cops came before the tow truck..he flashed his '20year appreciation' watch and was on his way

                              Valentine1 or go home.

why would you waste cash on a detector that doesn't even tell you where the source is coming from?

if you buy anything else you are wasting your money. I have logged 20,000km's in the last 45 days. My V1 gives me more warning than any escort or Bell detector. We have done our own tests in the truck and every time the V1 goes off first.
