Very scary as everything is sugective, how come they are singling out young people? In my experiance it is the older stupid poeople who are talking on their phones that cause accidents.

Well there'd be no reason not to run from the cops IMO. And guns as well.

The funny thing is if the car is financed, who pays for it when its crushed? Also, why destroy something that 1000 poor people would kill to have? I can see auctioning it off, like drug confiscations. But considering street races account for .2 percent of accidents, it's just fucking idiot politicians posturing for the crowds.

ya, you know its never gonna be the old guys in ferarri's, porsches etc....

its WAY to subjective, esp. if they include 'excessiev speeding' as I frequently hit cruise at 150-160 on trips out to the mountains, and I get passed by mini-vans on occasion, but you can bet your ass they'd destroy my car before the mini van lol

Khyron is right, this is nothing but political maneurvering (sorry about the spelling there). The amount of coverage street racing fatalities get in the press is grossly disproportionate to the number of fatalities it causes, however since it is far easier for the media and for politicians to place blame on a very specific demographic, that makes it easy to make show that they are getting tough on crime.

While street racing has caused a number of fatalities in the past year the number of fatalities resulting from racing pales in comparison to other factors. Last year alone driver fatigue was a major factor contributing to over 600 fatalities, drivers drving while being distracted by things such as cell phones resulted in over 500. If they were serious about our safety, these would be the things to go after.

I'd much rather see stiffer penalties like this saved for things like DUIs.

But for the price of cars, I'd have a hell of a lawyer getting it called not street racing.
