Does any one know if its easy to get a Turbo Timer for an mk4 gti? I would like one so i dont have to sit in the car after driving and some times i forget. What ones do you susjest and how hard are they to install?

Sorry I have no idea but how important are these anyway? I thought it was a bigger deal on say turbo diesel trucks and that sort, is it that important on a tdi or 1.8t?When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

I was always told if you are driving the turbo hard let it sit but if you are only driving around town you will be fine. I dont let mine sit very often sometimes if I come straight off the highway and park I will for a min or 2 but my car 130000km on it I have never had turbo problems.. (knock on wood)Its time for the wheels !!Finally!!

turbo is both cooled and lubed by oil, so when you shut off engine you loose lubrication and gain heat. this is of course, only for the time that the turbine is spinning. as far as I understand, it can be an issue with big turbos, but usually byt the time i pull into a parking lot and park, my turbo has slowed down.. so I dont worry about it. Just dont rev it up before you shut it of like guys do with their old school hot rodsStefan

I have one, but I don't bother using it. But don't think just cause you are not hammering it, you're not at risk of cooking the turbo.
When you get to your destination, let it idle for 20-30 seconds. For the last few minutes of your trip, drive like grandma. As in, minimal/no boost, 2K rpms.
The point is that oil circulates to pull heat away from the hot parts. Turbo is extremely hot. So if you just dead stop, the turbo is 800+ degrees, full of oil - but the oil is not moving so it cooks like a deep frier, either breaks down or turns to goo and then metal bits warp and break. Where as if it's idling and circulating for a minute, the heat is pulled away and the turbo is only 300-400 degrees (or less) when you turn it off. Much betta!
