  • MK IV Golf - Leaking Doors

Has anybody had an issue with the rust inhibitor that is found in the doors leaking out on REALLY hot days?

Where I usually do my summer vacation, my car is often parked in the sun at 38C temperatures and I regularly find that the yellow waxy rust protection in the doors melts and runs down the door sills rocker panels. Once dry, it is very hard and almost impossible to clean off.

    Anybody else have this problem?

Any thoughts how to really clean it....it picks up road dust and looks aweful.

This has happened for about 3 or 4 summers now in both front and back doors.

Vaguely remember reading about it, but can't give any good info. Not really and good terms to search for either. Are you sure it's rust inhibitor and not sound deadening foam or something?

This happens to me every summer as well!!! I thought I was the only one.

Still not sure why it happens to some and not to others. Might be due to how well the rubber seal on the doors is fitted.

I find the best way to get it off is to wait until it hardens and then flake it off.

I had the exact same thing on my GTI last week when it was parked on the street in the hot sun. Yellow wax from the rear corner of the door dripping down where the side skirt would be. I would suggest scraping most of it off, then use wax remover to get the last of it off. You can pick this up at MEC (used for snowboards and skis) and it works really well. You might want to re-wax that part of your car with auto wax when you're done.

I had this as well, just used a warm cloth after washing my car with warm water and it seemed to come off pretty easy. Then just waxed or cleaned up any area it messed.

It is just bee's wax, great design in my opinion as it does work quite well. As has been said it is pretty easy to remove.
