Email sent! Give us our fuel dammit!!

P.S. A side question... How come all chips seemed to be made for 93 octane fuel but yet, there doesn't seem to be anywhere that supplies 93 fuel? Is this a race thing? Sorry if this is a stupid question... I'm new to this High octane stuff.

    Cheers...

Can you believe it? I was just to talking to a buddy back home in Winnipeg and he said that there are 2 Mohawk stations selling 94 octane! If it's produced here, why isn't it sold here?

Horror stories about Shell gas? I've been using Shell the last few fill ups. What horror stories?

My dad used to work at Shell, actually long ago he helped come up with their blend formulas and additives. He doesn't work there any more, but he told me that they changed their formula a short time before he left (couple years ago) and in his opinion it is no longer as good as it was. Esso had the highest quality gas before they nerfed their octane levels.

On a related note, my Mom bought a GM car a few months ago, and the dealership actually showed her a fax from GM canada that recommended not filling up with Shell gas until further notice because it was being problematic in their new cars. Not sure about the details, I never saw this myself.

I asked my dad if he had heard anything about the 94 octane gas coming to Calgary, and he said he had heard rumors that Husky is bringing a "higher octane" fuel to Calgary and Edmonton shortly. HOWEVER he also said that Husky is streamlining their product line with that of Mohawk and so it is extremely likely that soon all Husky and Mohawk gas will contain Ethanol.

Edit: Although Ethanol increases octane, this is the supposedly "cheap way" to do it. Gasoline that uses ethanol for octane enhancement has fewer BTU's (less energy) than gasoline without ethanol. This translates into poorer performance and mileage. A lot of people say Ethanol is actually a good thing. However, it is largely being pushed by special-interest groups and not scientific independant study.

I hope that when the high octane stuff comes it doesn't have Ethanol blended in.
