  • Almost new wheel time

well, i have a wheel that is a bit out of whack, so I get vibration on the highway around 100km/h. I think I am in for new wheels, as these ones would be difficult to repair. I will probably go 18" again, but was looking for a some pics of 17"s with some lip on a jetta, to see if it can look good. I wont be going used this time 'round i dont think (unless you live close, so I can hunt ya down if they are bent ) I'm bummed out a bit.. I really like how my wheels look, but I dont think I will find a matching one easily to replace the bad one.

anyway, anyone with a mk4 running 17"s with a little lip?

and anyone want some cheap good looking 18"s that are a wee bit shakey .

its more a matter of finding somebody that will try to fix them. It is round, but has a bit of a skew to it side to side. they can be set straight, but since they are a welded 2 piece wheel, there is risk of fracturing a weld. I will try a few other places to see if anything can be done, but it doesnt look like it will be easy. Maybe they could be used for autocross or somethig? what are guys running for that? I expect 18"s are too big, and although they are a 2 piece, they are probably a little heavy. I dont know yet, i'll think of something to do with them.

Are you sure it's the wheel? Like you took it in for balancing and they said it's bent? AWR - what did they say? Straightening a wheel is usually under 100 (I did 2).

That's really too bad stefan, sorry to hear. I'd still go the 18" route though (Graeme's post looked good though I guess).

quite sure. the dents in the lip have been straigtened, but the barrel is a little off axis. On one piece wheels I guess is not too bad to twist around a little, but he wasnt in to doing that with a welded two piece in case a weld was cracked.

Tuna, the reason i was thinking 17" was just to make long highway drives a little smoother. With only a 1" drop thought, a stretched out tire on a 17 might not look that great, IMO.

In 18" I have some great options in stock depending on how much $$$ you want to spend. I have some 18x8.5 5-100 ET35's on clearance for $250.00 per rim right now if this interests you... Black 5 spoke with a polished lip...

Other than that I have some nice Axis wheels at regular club prices...

                  Re: Almost new wheel time

im thinking I will put new rubber on these ones and get cmsbob to do a last effort roadforce balance, and if they wont take, peel off the rubber and get new wheels.

I sure like Keskins, but that just abusing my line of credit... Any opinions on MRR? or some of the not too expensive wheels (with lip).

yeah, i was looking at that. black is almost to harsh of a contrast though, I prefer a grey of some sort.

TSW's seem to be trying to make a classier wheel (going away from the tuner crowd), maybe take a look. I think Bob can get TSW's too.
