        Biggest mistake EVER! They are totally killing the diesel momentum they have already built in NA.

              It's just for the 07 run, TDI back in 08. Stupid emissions laws going into effect before the gas is available... and no I don't think we're anything close to the US policies.

                I think we are going along with the US regulations, which will have some of the stongest emission regulations in the world causing the current TDIs to not be allowed. Therefore the change in fuels and perhaps a change in engines will see the return of the TDIs hopefully for 2008, which maybe will speed up MK6 models coming here too??

                This has been known for a long time but seems the mass media is just picking up on it now.

                  I think ultimately this will be a good thing. If we can align closer to EU that just means that there's a greater chance we'll see more diesels and from more manufacturers. I mean, Merc, Audi, BMW, Volvo, they all have nice diesel motors and if they don't have to rework them for NA maybe they'll be more inclined to offer them (a greater obstacle is still NA's impression of Diesels though).

                  Who knows. Personally, the Diesel/car combos offered right now I wouldn't be buying anyway so hopefully there are more options in the future. Otherwise Petrol for life I guess.
