Steering Wheel Controls...Aftermarket??

Has anyone had any type of success installing an aftermarket deck (like an Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc) and getting the factory steering wheel controls to work with it via one of those "universal steering wheel converter" dealies? I'm not sure how well it would work:
