  • Volkswagen Sales Up!!

Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) Monday said its March car sales in the U.S. rose 23.8% to 20,730 vehicles.
In the first three months of the year, car sales increased 24.3% on year to 53,296 vehicles, the company said.
The rise in sales was driven by the Jetta, Passat and Golf GTI models as well as structural improvements in the company's sales channels, Volkswagen said.

Looks like the new models are proving successful thus far for VW.

Audis is also up, but not as much:

Audi AG, the luxury car unit of Volkswagen AG, on Monday said its U.S. vehicle sales grew 7.6 percent in March, led by strong sales of its A4 sedan.
The company said it sold 6,994 vehicles last month, up from 6,502 in the year-ago period. Sales of the A4 rose 12.5 percent to 3,161 vehicles 2,811 for the same month in 2005.
For the first quarter, Audi sales were up 6.2 percent 17,884 vehicles, compared with 16,835 for the same quarter in 2005.

Other March numbers for comparison; Porsche +13%, Mercedes +18%, BMW +11%, Toyota +6.9%, Honda +1.6%, Chrysler +2%, Ford -4.6% and GM -14%

LOL, i'd hope all domestic's can pick their sales up...it seems as though they are finally realizing that they need to build a quality vechicle in order to compete in today's market. Why do you think Chrysler has been doing better? Or ford? new (and more euro in most cases) look, better quality.

Yes. Plus, the industry really needs these competitive forces to ensure quality products keep coming out... That's how GM got into their mess to begin with

The reason GM can't turn around is that they refuse to admit that they build crap cars. They will never turn around. They seem to be trying all the wrong things - like advertising. They need to try the right things - like making the inside of the car nice.

Seeing domestic 2000+ model years burning oil..... They have to start looking at building quality engines. Yet to see how the ecotec will hold up.

Yea no doubt, it's like a lot of companies, as soon as they get in trouble they start with the bandaids (laying people off, cutting costs, etc.) it makes investors happy but does little for the long term succes IMHO.

The reason I wouldn't mind seeing GM turn it around is because competition is good for everyone but also I just think it would be a shame for a company that's been around so long and has built some influential cars go out like this. It has nothing to do with pickup trucks.

Well if GM continues to go down this could mean huge troubles for all of us, so I think it would be for the best to have them hang around. The company has been run by a primarily business oriented management group of late and that has let products suffer and hence they are out of touch with the market place.

There is a push for Bob Lutz to become the next CEO of the company which could be what the company needs to get back into the game, or maybe a financial injection from Toyota
