  • Boost Gauge/Pod

Has anyone installed a boost gauge in a steering column pod? I was really wanting to put one on my A-Pillar, but then I realized there is an airbag there, so I can't do it. Anyway, how good does the steering wheel location look? What about visibility...does it block the speedo and tach? Also, how hard is it to install/hook up a boost gauge?

The bag doesn't go near the pillar, they just say that for liability. Search for full pics and the many threads. I think steering column pod looks bad imo as it does block. A pillar for life!

I was also woundering the same thing. I am dieing to find out what would be the best. I was thinking that putting it on the column would be so much easier. But i am sure that it would look better on the pillar. Because I also have an air bag on my pillar. It would be great to find out from someone that has one on either spots!

im also planning on putting a boost gauge on the pillar, this wouldnt be a problem in my 2000 jetta would it? cause i dont think the airbag that comes out of the seat would go that far, is that wat is considered the side curtain air bag? or am i wrong..

          Re: Boost Gauge/Pod

As someone said already.. you dont have an airbag underneath your a-pillar!

Go ahead and put gauges on there..

See? But you do have to be careful if you take OFF the a-pillar, instead of just tucking behind it.

So what yer sayin' here is...it's possible to put an A-Pillar pod on the A-Pillar even though there are airbags there because the airbags there are in the upper part of the A-Pillar, not the lower part...lol. How hard is the pod and the tubing/electrical to install? Is there any drilling needed? Oh, and how much of an effect does the pod have on the defrost vent's defrosting abilities?

it is a pain in the ass to get that pillar off. i believe the name of the clip that holds it on is now called the B!tch clip.no drilling is reqierd it al just tucks in nicely in the crack between the dash and the a-pillar. as for the defrosting nothing was really effected.

just dissconect the battery when you're installing it.

i'm lucky my audi one actually has no beatch clip.. it just slides on a rail and has a screw under the airbag logo..

i want to add an apillar to my S4.. i need to buy a passat 42dd one then redo it in black to match the headliner.. fun fun!

                    Re: Boost Gauge/Pod

I've got the steering column mount and vdo gauge from 42 draft designs. It fits fine, and only blocks the botton half of the center display on the cluster. I decided that the off-chance of having that gauge explode at my face when the airbag deploys wasn't worth it for installing on the a pillar.

I have it on my steering colum. Barley blocks anything. Kinda blocks the clock and very small portion of tach and speedo. Install was really easy. I have the daul gauge pod. I think it looks good. I can get you a pic later.
