Has anyone ever experimented with the position of their sub(s) in the trunk of a MKIV Jet? What sounds better - front facing or rear facing? I am considering spinning mine around to get better performance out of it...

Re: Sub Positions
mine is rear facing. it sounds pretty good. i was surprised how much quieter it was when the seats were up as opposed to folded down.. guess my last car was not insulated as well. I still have a bit of vibration from the upolstered piece under the back window rattling against the tin under it, but i'll get that solved eventually. I also found a bit of dynamat works wonders.Last edited by stefan; 03-29-2006, 07:18 PM.Stefan

Re: Sub Positions
I have my 2 10's facing forward, phased 180 degrees. It pounds pretty good. I have played with the phase a few times but always think 180 sounds better. They won't fit facing back with my amp rack.
I had them facing back to begin with, but with too small an amp to both subs. Tried forward and back with this setup, couldn't really tell a difference.
Most people I have talked to say pointing back is best. Facing forward seems to make the rear deck lid (behind the rear seats) rattle more.Jeff

Re: Sub Positions
Yeah...my 12 is facing forward. Deck lid rattled pretty bad, but I took it out and packed a layer of foam matting from Wal Mart between the plastic and the metal. Also added a layer of DynaMat on the metal. Worked wonders. Just thinking now that maybe my sub would sound "bigger" if I gave it some more air space to work with...AKA face it backward.'02 Jetta 1.8Tuuurbo

Re: Sub Positions
Bass frequencies (waves) are very long. The longer the wave the better the bass sounds to the ear. If it is bouncing off the rear and then coming forward to the front the wave is longer. Subs always sound better facing to the rear.
