  • Swirl Marks in Paint

I bought my 2002 Jetta used with 14000 KM on it, I first noticed that the paint had some swirl marks in it. I didn't think much of this because I knew that there were products on the market that removes the swirls.

Well it has been 6 months and lots of money wasted on car wax/cleaners and nothing has taken these damn things out! (It is driving me crazy!) I have tried Meguiars Cleaner wax, Meg.. Swirl remover, Meg... Deep crystal stage one treatment and Mothers scratch and swirl remover. None of these products have worked, I've tried them all by hand and random orbital buffer many times and nothing is working!!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE THE SWIRLS MAKE ME INSANE:donking: !!!

try a clay bar.. then a glaze then a wax.. search on the vortex detailing forums about a full detail and it should help you.

It is more likely the damaged on the clear-coat.

Look at my earlier post on how I detailed my car. I bought mine with 35,000kms from a guy who commuted into the city from a farm near red deer. Needless to say it has a fair number of chips and scratches and swirls. You can never get it looking "perfect". However, you can make it so shiny that it blinds you and you can no longer see the swirls.

I agree that Mothers and Meguiars swirl removers dont work. I actually found that Mothers "scratch remover" did something you carefully did multiple applications... maybe it made the swirls a bit less noticable on my test section. But the most important things are clay bar and then wax.

Did you try getting it power polished?

Yeah a polishing will take out a ton of stuff.

I have a 10 inch random orbital buffer, will the power polishing be much different from that?

There is a big difference betwwen the two. A power polish if done correctly will take out most swirl marks, if not done correctly it will take out most of your paint :donking: :donking:

I have some deeper scratches etc on the Porsche (black) that can be hidden nicely with glaze but it is a process that needs repeating very often.

Well, I went to dent doctor, they removed a scrape for me I think it was 150 bucks for the dent and polish.

So I know of a place but it's in Edmonton called Mings (I think the actuall name is "Mings Auto Shine". Now before everyone gets upset I know that we live in Cal. but I thought that I would mention it because they do amazing work. If you were desperate enough or if you ever go up there it's probably worth checking out. I've seen a really terrible looking black vehicle come out looking like it just came off the lot, it had the worst paint swirl I had ever seen. So, if your interested I could get you the #. It's far but might be worth it as a last resort.

Good luck, Being frustrated with your vehicle sucks, I know, I have a Corrado!!:mrlaugh:
