Regarding the 3M just "coming off": That won't happen. Once it's on there it is crazy hard to get off in my experience. The previous owner of Le Jetta had 4 strips of it on the roof in the roof rack mounting locations to protect the paint. The strips had gotten all discolored and stuff so I decided to take them off. IT IS NOT EASY TO TAKE OFF!! I used a heat gun and every method I could think of. Took a couple freaking days to get it all off.

I had mine for 2 years, and took it off this year because it was starting to get beat, and I HATED the line (dark green car). On a silver cat it's a lot harder to see.

The paint DID weather differently (obviously) and so my stock hood does have a permanent line. I would respray but it's a winter hood now anyway.

And the damn rocks hit where the 3m coating isn't. Your grill. Just above the line on the hood. The bumper. So you end up with a car that has the lame line/tape AND dents/chips.

I think the only place I'd have it in the future would be the headlights if I had HIDs.
