  • 3M on the bumper and OUR CAR IS ALMOST HERE!

Hi all, I know this has been discussed before but I need an answer in the next couple hours.....

Our car will be here here, and we're really debating the 3M protection on the bumper and hood. First of all they want $400 for the bumper and mirrors. I'm not a big fan of the stuff but my wife drives deerfoot every day (it may as well be a country gravel road). Is it worth it? If I get it I'd rather get it right now before it gets any chips in it. I'm really unsure at this point and kinda leaning on the "no" side but I have to make up my mind quick.

    Thanks for the input.

And we should be picking it up on Monday, I can't WAIT!!

Imo it really works and is worth it. On light colored cars it is harder to notice it as opposed to dark or black cars. Where I dont have I got some really nice rock chips from going to B.C. for x-mas and congrats for your new car soon

For what it's worth, I drive Deerfoot every single day as well....and if it wasn't for my 3M, my front end would be toast. If you're worried about it looking good, DON'T. If you take good care of it and put the odd coat of plastic wax on it (make sure you do it right so it doesn't turn yellow), you won't even notice that it's on there....just my $0.02. I WILL get it on my next car too!

I use to do the 3m for bmw. The stuff works great. The old stuff use to discolor after a few year but the new stuffs lasts great! just make sure to wax it when u wax ur car. Try to avoide touching it when its super dirty also. it will leave hairline scratches just like ur clear coat does. this will keep it more invisable. 400 is a little steep. I know ur could probably get it done for cheaper. But buying a new car im sure you could of tossed that in for free. Even bmw does if you ask. Id go with it though! its always removable down the road if u dont like it any more or just need a change.

I just called S/T, they need to measure the car before they quote me. That doesn't exactly work for me! haha

Well I have no really experience with 3M, but I hear the new stuff is much better quality, and on white would porbably be hard to see.

Anyway glad to see the car is almost here and I cant wait to see it and even a couple pics!!!!

Yep, another fan of the 3m here. As others have said, if you keep it fairly clean, and wax it to prevent the dirt from becoming permanent, it won't discolour. On my Silverstone, I can barely see it, anything lighter and it would be pretty much invisible.

Lease or own? if lease, who cares..if own, may as well.

I personally wont get 3m again..Id rather pony up the cash every few years to get the front end resprayed than have to see that line...and it may not be overly visable but YOU know its there and YOU'll see if every time you hop in your car.

and im kind of sour about it because I must have left wax on my car too long and it yellowed the s**t out of the 3m in a few spots...looked like garbage

I have to agree with the masses, I think it's great. I have it on my ride, and it works amazing. I do find it harder to clean than paint, and I have a spot or two of discolouring caused from bug guts being on too long, but better to have that then huge rock chips. Also, it can always be removed later if you hate it or want to respray for some reason (of course then you'll have to pay again to put it back on).

                      I say go for it!

Thanks for all the inputs guys I really appreciate it. I think we're going to get it and as long as the dealership uses 3M I think we'll get them to do it as shopping around a little in the last 1/2 hour I was only able to save about 40 bucks. this way it can be on already when we pick up the car.

unless you are going to do an entire body part, its a waste of money, i'm never getting it again.

I'd say do it.. and do it privately unless they are doing it for free. I got my last car done at Shadow Tint by 42ave SW and it was great! No complaints here...
