  • HOLY FARK MOBIL1 is pricy !

I phoned south centre since I can't find 0-40 at walmart or crappy tire.. they quoted me 13.64/qrt.. HOLY SHEITE! At walsmart 15-50 and 5-30 were 26/4 litres.. damn man.. what oil is everyone else running in their 1.8T.. the dealer said they use Castrol Syntec 5-40 which I can't find anywhere.. any other stores in Calgary that sell Mobil 1?

        Castrol FSX 5-50

I've never even seen Castrol 5-40.
No worries though, Castrol 5-50 FSX is available at Walmart, Costco, etc. for $6.50/L. :wtf:

The oil is thicker at operating temp and with cool better. Some would argue that that means you can't lubricate as well - I'd call BS on that though. :mrscrewy:

I've used this oil for about 3 years and I've never had any problems, but like any oil, the best test is to have an oil analysis done. :ed:

IMO the 0W-40 oil that SFC sells is over priced. If I need to pay that much to get (average) product like Mobil 1 0W-40 then why I cannot use something even more better(ex. Redline, Amsoil or Motul)?

I've seen 0/40 in Walmart here before - some stores have better selection than others. The 5/40 castrol is made special for VW dealers - word has it you can't just go buy it.

Some of the other peeps are using the 5/40 Mobil 1 delvac - it's for diesel engines, but apparently it meets all the right standards. I have dealer synth in there right now (bloody oil pan smashed) and I dunno what I'll put in next change. Probably the 0/40.

Oh yah - C1 sells some weird German oil, they seem to think it's the best.

when did you guys do your first oil change? I really don't want to run up to 8k. I have an appt on the 7th to get it done and by then I'll have like 4500km on my car which is fine for me..then I guess again at 8-10k for my first service..

I use Amsoil 5-30 in winter and 15-40 in summer. I can get it at about 7-8 bucks a bottle if anyone is interested.

I think Mopac carries it too, aloing with any Penzoil lube places.

you're supposed to wait an extra amount of time for your first oil change. thats what VW and Audi recommend. it makes sure all the metal shavings are done and its fully broken in. the oil itself is special break-in oil.

i'm taking in my dad's audi TT tomorrow morning for its first oil change at 12k.

Cancel your appointment, the whole idea behind break in oil is to ensure all impurities and filings are taken out of your car by this stage. I doubt they would even let you change your oil...I am pretty sure VW/AUDI knows what they are talking about when they tell you not to change your oil before 8000km
I own a luxury econobox..is that an oxymoron?

yea i am canceling my appt now. I might still bring it in for them to check out my creaky rear suspension though but I am gonna wait on the oil.
